Pest Control and Exterminators in Hollywood, Los Angeles

Two-story 1920s Spanish-style courtyard apartment building with cream stucco, red clay tile roof and an arched entry draped in bougainvillea, with chaparral-covered hills rising behind in hazy afternoon light

Hollywood is a neighborhood of renters. In ZIP codes 90028 and 90038, the core of its flatlands, about 95% of households rent, and 85% of homes are in buildings with five or more units. Uphill, the Hollywood Hills and Griffith Park bring canyons, brush and wildlife to the back fence. Those facts decide where pests turn up: cockroaches and bed bugs moving through shared walls, and rats around busy kitchens and hillside rooflines. PesPro serves Hollywood from its single office in El Monte, about 17 miles away.

Hollywood at a glance

  • About 60,000 people live in ZIP codes 90028 and 90038, and roughly 30,600 of their 32,300 households rent (US Census ACS 2020–2024).
  • About 32,800 of the area's 38,500 homes are in buildings with five or more units, and some 12,400 are in buildings with 50 or more.
  • Roughly one home in four was built before 1940, and the city's historic survey notes Hollywood still has a large stock of 1920s bungalow courts.
  • In 2026, county health inspectors temporarily closed at least three Hollywood food businesses for vermin, on Hollywood Boulevard, on Sunset Boulevard and at a bar.
  • Griffith Park adds more than 4,210 acres of chaparral and parkland next door, and West Nile–positive mosquitoes turned up there and in the Hollywood Hills in 2026.
  • About half of residents speak a language other than English at home; roughly 32% speak Spanish.

Neighborhoods and landmarks we cover: the Hollywood Boulevard corridor, Sunset Boulevard around Sunset and Vine, Franklin Avenue apartment blocks, Melrose Avenue and the studio blocks of 90038, the Santa Monica Boulevard corridor, Beachwood Canyon, the Cahuenga Pass and Lake Hollywood, hillside streets bordering Griffith Park.

Nineteen of every twenty households rent

Census estimates for ZIP codes 90028 and 90038 count about 32,300 households, and roughly 30,600 of them rent. Only about 2,200 of the 38,500 homes are detached houses. Most people live in apartment buildings, and many are large. Some 12,400 homes sit in buildings with 50 or more units, and close to 10,000 more in buildings with 20 to 49.

In buildings that size, a pest problem rarely belongs to one apartment. German cockroaches follow plumbing chases from kitchen to kitchen, and bed bugs travel along wiring and under doors. A treatment holds when the owner or manager lets us check the units around the one that called. Tenants can book with us directly. California Civil Code 1941.1 counts freedom from rodents and vermin among the basic conditions of a habitable rental, so we keep both sides informed. [1] [2]

1920s bungalow courts beside brand-new buildings

Hollywood's housing comes in layers. The city's SurveyLA report explains that large colonies of bungalow courts went up in the 1920s within blocks of the studios. Hollywood still has a substantial number of them, most altered over the decades. Census estimates date about one home in four in 90028 and 90038 to 1939 or earlier.

At the other end, roughly 5,000 homes in 90028 were built in 2010 or later, more than a fifth of that ZIP code. Each era has its weak spots. Century-old courts tend to have worn screens, gaps around old pipes and trim that has pulled away from the stucco. Newer buildings concentrate trash rooms, parking garages and long shared corridors, where rodents and cockroaches can move out of sight. [5] [1] [2]

Hotel rooms, suitcases and bed bugs

In 2017 the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce counted 3,926 hotel rooms in 51 Hollywood properties, after three new hotels added more than 500 rooms that year. Los Angeles County Public Health notes that bed bugs are a recurring problem in hotels and motels serving tourists, and that travelers can carry them home in luggage.

A busy hotel district does not make a building dirty; it means more suitcases come and go. For residents, the useful habits are simple. Check luggage after a trip and look over secondhand furniture before it comes inside. Report bites early, because a small infestation is far easier to clear than one that has spread between units. [6] [7]

Kitchens, bars and the county health inspector

Hollywood's restaurants and bars are inspected by Los Angeles County Public Health, and a vermin infestation is one of the findings that closes a business on the spot. It happened at least three times here in 2026. Inspectors closed an arcade restaurant on Hollywood Boulevard on March 26, a bar on July 30 and a fast-casual restaurant on Sunset Boulevard on September 16.

The bar and the Sunset Boulevard restaurant reopened within two days, after the repairs and passing follow-up inspection the county requires. For food businesses we schedule visits before opening or after close. We use products labeled for food-handling areas, such as gel baits and insect growth regulators, and keep a written log ready for the inspector who sets the DPH letter grade. [9] [10] [11]

The hills above Hollywood: ZIP 90068 and Griffith Park

Above the flats, the city's survey describes streets that follow the Cahuenga Pass and canyons such as Beachwood, Laurel and Nichols. We keep hillside ZIP 90068 out of the flatland figures on this page because its housing is so different. About 44% of households own, 43% of homes are detached houses and the median home dates to 1958.

Griffith Park adds more than 4,210 acres of chaparral, sage scrub and oak woodland, according to the city's parks department. Hillside homes are likely to see roof rats coming in from dense plants and trees, plus coyotes, raccoons and opossums passing through. PesPro handles the rodents and insects. For wild animals, the City of Los Angeles sends residents to LA Animal Services, which gives on-site advice on keeping them out. [5] [3] [12] [15] [14]

Mosquitoes and typhus: who tracks what

The Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District reports West Nile results by community. Its tables show positive mosquito samples in the Hollywood Hills in 2022, 2023, 2025 and 2026, and three in Griffith Park in 2026, the first detected July 30. Next door in Los Feliz, the district counted six positives in 2026.

The state lists both invasive Aedes mosquitoes, day biters that breed in small containers, as present in the City of Los Angeles as a whole. PesPro does not provide mosquito control; report standing water or heavy biting to the district at 562-944-9656 or GLAmosquito.org.

Flea-borne typhus is a county-wide concern. Public Health counted a record 220 cases in 2025 and 109 more by late September 2026, including an outbreak in Wilshire Center, south of Hollywood. No public report ties cases to Hollywood itself. The fleas ride on rats, stray cats and opossums, so keeping rodents out of buildings and treating pets all year both help. Spanish, Armenian and the other languages at home

About half of the residents of 90028 and 90038 speak a language other than English at home. Spanish leads with about 18,600 speakers, and roughly 9,000 of them speak English less than very well. Our technicians explain findings, quotes and prep steps in English or Spanish.

Another 3,100 residents speak what the Census groups as other Indo-European languages, a category that includes Armenian and Persian. Our website can be read in both, as well as Korean, Tagalog and Chinese. Visits and phone calls are in English or Spanish. [1] [2] [4]

Pest control in Hollywood: common questions

Is Hollywood the same service area as West Hollywood?

No. Hollywood is a neighborhood of the City of Los Angeles, while West Hollywood is a separate city with its own page on our site. We serve both from our El Monte office, about 17 miles from Hollywood. If you are not sure which side of the line your address falls on, call and we will confirm it is on our route.

Do your technicians go up into the Hollywood Hills and the streets near Griffith Park?

Yes. Hillside homes in 90068 and the canyons near Griffith Park are on our route. On those lots the technician looks closely at the roofline, attic vents and any trees or ivy touching the house. Roof rats tend to travel through vegetation and enter high.

My building has more than 50 units. Can you treat only my apartment?

We can, but in a large building that rarely ends a cockroach or bed bug problem for long. Both pests move through plumbing chases, wiring and hallways. The lasting plan includes neighboring units and common areas, which needs the manager's approval, so let your manager know when you book.

Can you service a Hollywood bar or restaurant without interrupting business?

Yes. We schedule visits before opening or after close, treat kitchens, back bars, storage and floor drains with products labeled for food areas and avoid broadcast spraying near food surfaces. Each visit is logged in writing or digitally so you can show the history during a county inspection.

Does PesPro deal with coyotes, raccoons or opossums?

No. Our work is rodents and insects. In Hollywood and the hills, wild animal questions go to LA Animal Services, which offers advice on deterrents and keeping animals out. We can still close the gaps rats and mice use around vents, decks and foundations.

Do you have technicians who speak Armenian?

Service visits and calls are in English or Spanish. Our website is also available in Armenian, Persian, Chinese, Korean, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Japanese and French. Relatives can read about the treatment and the prep steps there before the technician arrives.

How is pest control priced for a Hollywood apartment or house?

Price depends on the pest, the size and age of the building and how many units or entry points are involved. A technician looks at the property first, then you receive a free written quote that lists what is included before any treatment starts.
