Commercial Pest Control in Irwindale, CA

Irwindale runs on industry, not housing. The city reports that less than 1% of its land is residential, against about 43% industrial, with roughly 700 businesses and 40,000 jobs. That makes the work here mostly commercial — distribution warehouses, food and beverage plants, employee breakrooms and commercial kitchens — plus a small neighborhood of owner-occupied houses. PesPro is based in El Monte, about 4.7 miles away, and our Irwindale service centers on rodent and cockroach programs that leave a written record behind every visit.

Where 40,000 jobs meet about 1,400 residents

The City of Irwindale puts industrial uses at about 43% of its 9.5 square miles and open space at roughly 32%, while homes occupy less than 1%. The city counts around 700 businesses and some 40,000 jobs. The Census, by contrast, estimates only about 1,400 people living here, in 412 occupied homes.

That ratio shapes pest control in Irwindale. Most buildings in town are workplaces — warehouses, production plants, offices with breakrooms — and a pest problem in one of them is judged by inspectors, auditors and customers, not just by the people inside. Commercial pest control here is less about a single sighting and more about running a documented program that holds up when someone reviews it.

Food and beverage plants raise the stakes

The city highlights food and beverage producers and logistics operations among its more than 700 businesses, along with active aggregate quarries. Any site that receives raw ingredients and packaging by the truckload and stores them on pallets is likely to draw rodents and German cockroaches. No pest incidents have been published for Irwindale facilities; the risk comes from the nature of the work.

Food-safety auditors and health inspectors generally expect more than a clean floor. They look for a written pest program, a map of every monitoring device, dated service reports, notes when activity rises and proof that recommended corrections were made. Our food plant pest control in Irwindale is organized around that paper trail, so each visit ends with a record your team can hand to an auditor.

Business parks built over old gravel pits

Irwindale's nickname, Jardín de Roca (rock garden), points to its history. PBS SoCal's Lost LA reports that 17 mining sites once covered about 70% of the city, with pits as deep as roughly 200 feet, and that some of today's largest buildings — including a 2-million-square-foot business center from 2001 — were built on filled-in pits.

Mining has not stopped. A state environmental review of one 488-acre operation beside the San Gabriel River, near Live Oak Avenue and the I-605, describes dredging in an existing body of water, with a 330-acre freshwater lake as the planned end use. For facility managers, that adds up to large buildings next to open ground, rock stockpiles and water — edges where rodents are likely to find shelter before they find a dock door.

West Nile virus in Irwindale mosquitoes, 2021–2024

The San Gabriel Valley Mosquito & Vector Control District reported West Nile–positive mosquito samples from Irwindale four years running: five in 2021 (first reported July 12), two in 2022 (July 11), five in 2023 (August 8) and three in 2024 (July 23). Its August 28, 2024 update listed Irwindale among 11 cities with confirmed virus that season. Irwindale did not appear in the district's 2020 or 2025 lists.

The record goes back further. In 2011 a chicken from a sentinel flock kept at the Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area tested positive, and in 2013 the virus was detected in Irwindale along with Arcadia and Monterey Park. The state health department lists the invasive mosquito Aedes aegypti as present in Irwindale and recorded Aedes albopictus here as recently as 2023. In September 2024, a locally acquired dengue case in neighboring Baldwin Park led the district to inspect door to door; no infected mosquitoes were found.

PesPro does not provide mosquito control — that is the district's job, and it can be reached at (626) 814-9466. The district asks people to dump standing water weekly and to use repellent with DEET, picaridin, IR3535 or oil of lemon eucalyptus, advice that matters for crews working outdoors at yards and docks in summer. Its scope covers mosquitoes and black flies; rodents, cockroaches, bees, fire ants and house flies fall outside it, which is why Irwindale businesses and homeowners rely on private pest control for those.

The residential side of Irwindale

Irwindale's housing is small and settled. Of about 417 homes, 385 are detached single-family houses (92%), roughly 78% are owner-occupied and the median home was built in 1985, according to the Census. With houses this close to industrial land and open space, mice in garages and American cockroaches coming up through drains are the problems we would expect to see, although no local reports document them.

About half of residents age five and older speak Spanish at home. Our technicians work in English and Spanish, so inspection findings and preparation steps can be explained in either language.
