The open-space edge drives rodent pressure
The Hacienda Hills section of the Puente Hills Preserve sits inside the community. Its brush and oak cover is natural habitat for roof rats and deer mice, and in the dry months they push toward irrigated yards, avocado and citrus trees and pet food left outside.
Roof rats are climbers: they run along fence tops, utility lines and branches that touch the roof. On streets that back onto open space, we trim-and-seal at the roofline as well as at ground level.
