A tree canopy that reaches the roof
San Marino's tree cover is part of its identity; the city's own Lacy Park was designed as a botanical garden with trees donated from the Huntington estate. On private lots, old oaks, camphors, citrus and climbing vines are likely to give roof rats both shelter and food, and branches resting on a roof let them skip the ground entirely.
We note every limb, vine and utility line that touches the house and mark which ones to cut back. For large or valuable trees, check with the City of San Marino about permit rules and use a qualified arborist; our role is to show where the access points are and to seal the house itself.
